When Hudson was 4 years old he was diagnosed with a tethered spinal cord that occurred as a result of having occult spina bifida. His spinal cord was being pulled tight, damaging the nerves that control his bladder, causing a condition called neurogenic bladder. Neurosurgeon Dr. Jodi Smith at Riley Hospital performed surgery to correct the deformity. Hudson also visits Riley Urology frequently to address his neurogenic bladder, and just recently had a sacral nerve stimulator implanted, which acts like a pacemaker for his bladder. Last year Hudson was also diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. He regularly sees specialists at Riley Outpatient Center in neurosurgery, urology, cardiology, and genetics departments.
